Child & Play Therapy
Childhood in an immigrant or bicultural household often means carrying big feelings without always having the words for them. Play is a child's natural language, and it gives us a safe, non-verbal way to help your child process difficult experiences, express what's hard to say out loud, and build emotional skills they'll carry for life.
As a BC Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) and Licensed School Psychologist, and a former Child and Youth Mental Health (CYMH) Clinician with the BC government, I have extensive experience supporting children, youth, and families. My background in school psychology helps me understand what may be behind a child's behaviour by observing how they play, communicate, and interact. I offer culturally responsive, bilingual play therapy in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin for children ages 3 to 11.
How It Works ?
Play therapy meets your child exactly where they are, using a structure that respects both their development and your family's needs. Our work together typically consists of two stages:
-
We begin with a parent consultation to understand your child's history, your family's cultural context, and what's brought you here, so we can set goals together.
-
Your child then attends individual play sessions in a safe, non-judgmental space where they can process feelings and experiences through play, with regular check-ins to share progress with you.
Why Choose Child & Play Therapy?
Children don't always have the vocabulary to name what they're feeling, especially when navigating two cultures at once. Using evidence-based, developmentally appropriate approaches, we will work together to:
-
Help your child process difficult experiences and big emotions in a way that feels safe and natural to them.
-
Improve behavioral challenges at home or school by understanding what's underneath them.
-
Build emotional regulation skills your child can carry into the classroom, friendships, and family life.
