Family Counselling
In immigrant and bicultural families, love is often expressed through sacrifice, high expectations, and hard work, but not always through words. When parents and children see the world through different cultural lenses, misunderstandings can build into distance, conflict, or silence. Family counselling offers a safe space to slow down, understand one another, and reconnect.
As a BC Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) and Licensed School Psychologist, and a former Child and Youth Mental Health (CYMH) Clinician with the BC government, I have extensive experience supporting children, youth, and families. I offer culturally responsive, bilingual family counselling in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.
How It Works ?
My work with families is grounded in Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), an evidence-based approach that recognizes parents and caregivers as powerful agents of healing in their child's life. Our work together typically includes:
-
An initial meeting with parents or caregivers to understand your family's story, cultural background, current challenges, and goals.
-
Sessions with parents, and with other family members where helpful, to build skills for emotional support, repair ruptures in the relationship, and respond to difficult behaviours with understanding.
Why Choose Family Counselling?
Families don't always have a shared language for emotions, especially when generations have grown up in different cultures. Using EFFT and culturally responsive approaches, we will work together to:
-
Bridge communication gaps between parents and children across generations and cultures.
-
Process relational tension and repair hurt within the family.
-
Strengthen family connection so every member feels heard, supported, and understood.
